mint snake
Original gouache painting on archival watercolor paper.
6 x 6 inches with small white border.
This was part of the daily painting, Plant Portrait Series of February 2025.
Day 24, 2/24/25
Back story:
Can you really be a plant person if you don’t have a snake plant or a good snake plant story?!
I feel these plants have such a mixed wrap. People either like them fine or think they are terrible, low caliber plants. Maybe up there with spider plants?!
This particular plant came from the bad end of that reputation. When my parents were moving out of my childhood home and “shit was” proverbially and literally flying, my Mom was throwing this plant out. If you know me, you know it’s borderline sacrilegious to THROW A PLANT AWAY. So far, I have not actually ever really done this, although I feel my time may be coming. But that time was NOT 4 years ago when my Mom was over this plant and I took it in like a rescue.
I like the colors of this piece, the coolness of it. Toothpaste green was a season of color for me in a past self. And those little white flecks, is that sunlight or water? Do you know?
Like: “don’t throw the baby out with the bath water” which now has an association of my Mom for me, for this plant I thought: don’t throw this plant out with all the other stuff you’re purging! Doesn’t have a ring to it but it does have a connection!
Check out Plant Portrait Series of February 2025 if you want more story on this piece. If there is more, it will be in that Write.
Important note:
THIS PIECE DOES NOT COME FRAMED.
These pieces are SHOWN placed in a Basic Box Wood Frame which I love the aesthetic of for the simplicity and minimalist aesthetic.
