someone else's room

$100.00

Original gouache painting on archival watercolor paper.

6 x 6 inches with small white border.

This was part of the daily painting, Plant Portrait Series of February 2025.

Day 16, 2/16/25

Back story:

Like someone’s portrait: “self portrait of someone i know”, this is someone’s room, a portrait of someone’s room, a landscape of a room, a painting of what makes up a room, what you see, including what you leave out.

If I did a portrait of your room, what would the reference photo be?

I had a reference photo for this one. I liked the light play on the wall. This probably started as another instance of me looking to figure out what to do with “background”. What’s particularly lovely about this piece to me, beyond the light casting: you can’t tell which is the open window pane and which is the shape that the light is casting from the actual window pane. The jade is an ACTUAL jade I have, painted intended for “real life” and actual and I do think the "end result” represents what that particular jade plant really looks like. The vase of purple flowers was an ACTUAL vase of fresh flowers I had at the time, too. Given to me for Valentines Day!

But the thing I love the most about this piece: the paintings on the wall that are the “background” are actual representations of paintings from this Series! Water Thy Self and a plant in a corner, I love this about this piece.

Check out Plant Portrait Series of February 2025 if you want more story on this piece. The references photos and any more story will be there.
