Back story:
This is what we call the plant corner / plant shelf in our house. There’s a “cubby” in our bedroom over where the water heater lives, that I made into The Plant Nook a few years ago. It’s where a lot of the plants go in the off season, when they have to be rotated from inside to outside, and reverse, based on the time of year.
As my plant collection grew, so too did the space I needed to be able to put plants. 2 years ago I installed grow lights in this Plant Nook area, which was a brand new concept to me. The idea of having inside lights for plants, hadn’t previously occurred to me as something I would ever do. Light comes from the sun, my plants aren’t getting fake light. That was my position being the "naturalist" I have always been. However once I outgrew space at the only place that gets great light in our house, I folded and got fake sun.
This painting is painted from a picture I took of this space, as it was this past Winter. There are so many plants in that space, I did not paint them all. Another instance of NOT intending to represent something exactly as it is.
landscapes inside:
“The Plant Shelf has a Space” was the first of this kind of painting and led to an interest in roomscapes which I see as being a related departure from the original interest in doing landscapes from my cross country road trip.
